A couple Saturdays ago, me and some friends got together and went out drinking for the first time in a long while, or at least the first time I’d gone in a while. We all used to do stuff like that a lot more a year or two ago, me and Mike and Kelly and Chris a few other people. And it’s not even that any of us have really fallen out of touch, just that we don’t get to see each other as much. In the past year, Mike moved to D.C., and Kelly graduated, so I don’t have any classes with her or see her as much these days. So it was nice to all get together again like old times and hit up our old favorite spot, the Thirsty Dog Pub in Federal Hill. Plus it was the first time we’d all hung out since Landon moved in, and he used to come up to hang out with us on weekends a lot before he moved up here. Kelly’s friends Megan and Asher were there too, it was good to catch up with Asher, who was in some of our classes.

After last call at the Thirsty Dog, most of us met back at Kelly’s to hang out, and we decided to watch a movie. But someone, probably Kelly, decided that we should watch The Exorcist. Now, I was pretty impressed with the movie the one time I’d seen it before, but it’s really not a great movie to watch when you’re drunk. And not just because it’s spooky as hell, but because it takes a long time to build up to the action, so there’s a lot of lulling boring parts and it was hard to keep awake. And being half-asleep and then jolted back awake by the really creepy parts can be quite unpleasant.

Finally, after a couple hours of that, everyone kind of decided to get up and get on the way home. I’d sobered up pretty well by then, but it was still a little surreal to drive home at something like 5am in that hungover state after watching that movie. I was literally so paranoid that I kept looking into my rear view mirror and half expecting Linda Blair to be in my back seat. But other than that, it was a good night, hopefully I’ll get to hang out with those folks more soon.

Landon has a pet ferret, who goes by the name of Weasel, who has been an interesting addition to the household. I’ve never really had any pets besides cats and dogs, so any other kind of mammal kind of weirds me out as a domestic pet, though. He’s really funny and playful, though. Most of the time Landon keeps him in his cage, unless he’s at home to keep an eye on Weasel while he roams about the apartment. I’m still getting used to having to keep my bedroom door closed when he’s out. I like to keep my door cracked, and now and then I’ll hear it creak open, and then I’ll have to hunt him down through the mess of my room.

Weasel and I get along ok, but he loves to nip at my feet. Apparently his favorite attention-getting tactic is nipping at people’s feet, and he really goes at mine. I’m still figuring out how to deal with it. I make sure I wear socks when he’s around. If I let him get too close, he’ll really bite down, right through the sock. He doesn’t really mean any harm, he’s just playing, and besides his teeth are pretty small so he’s yet to do any serious damage.

Today Dad and Shelby dropped by for a visit while running errands. Shelby has a penchant for chasing squirrels and smaller mammals, so I made sure Landon had the ferret in a cage when Shelby was there. Dad brought a pizza and we had some dinner and caught up on things. He also brought me my mail and some homemade soup. Or rather, 2 different kinds of soup and some chili. It is good to be the son of a generous cook.
