Today when I came home from work, there was a wasp in my room. I sat down at my desk, which faces the window, and as I turned on my computer and turned on the radio, I noticed something flying in an out of the blinds. At first I was a little freaked out but not sure what it was. I didn’t want to jump to conclusions and assume it was a wasp, but after it flew out from behind the blinds briefly a couple times, I got a good look at the yellow stripes and verified that yes, it was definitely a wasp.

I have no idea how it got in here, since we’re on the third floor and pretty much all our windows are enclosed. I’m tempted to blame my roommate, who leave the window in the kitchen cracked, but the screen is closed, so I’m not sure how the wasp got in exactly. But there he was. He flew around my room with me there for about an hour, mostly staying by the window. A couple times he flew down near the floor around my feet, which really freaked me out. Then, as he came right up close once and perched on the side of my chair, I got up and let him sit still there for a second. Then, I grabbed a sneaker from the floor and BAM let him have it. I’m not cruel to mammals, but man, I’ll kill a bug in a second, especially if it’s a stingy kind all up in my personal space.

It’s been a few months now since car troubles last put my financial stability in a spin, and I’ve been doing a fairly good job of maintaining equilibrium there, although it’s still stressing me. Everytime I think I’m solid footing and feel free to spend a little money, I realize a few days later that my spending spree was ill-advised and that it put me in a position that it will be difficult to make rent and pay the next couple bills on time. A couple weeks ago, I went a little crazy at the grocery store and spent like $70, and have been regretting it ever since.

In fact, I’ve got a couple bills overdue right now, because last week I had to sacrifice them in order to make up for the last couple payments on my student loan that I missed. I get the bills for those at my permanent address, my dad’s house, and I’m generally over there at least once a month so I usually collect my mail whenever I’m over for dinner, and the last couple times, I asked dad for those bills, and he didn’t give them to me, and then got pissed when I started getting overdue notices, like it was completely because of me being irresponsible. So I had to write a big fat check for that, and so BGE and Comcast will have to be a little late.

But I have to take money out of savings to pay my fall tuition next week, and I’m gonna take a little extra out to help me live a little more comfortably for the time being. I realized the other day that the summer is almost halfway over and one of the reasons I don’t feel like I’ve made the most of it so far is that I’ve been slim on dough, despite the fact that I’ve been working 40 hours almost every week, and a couple weeks even 50. It’s just frustrating. So I’m going to dip into savings a little so that I can buy dumb stuff like DVDs while I still have the free time to watch them before school starts again, and make sure I have some spending cash for when I go spend a few days at my brother’s place in Wisconsin in August.
