NEW ZUUL SHOW COMING UP: Gotham Road (feat. Michael Graves of The Misfits) ZUUL Cheerleaders of the Apocalypse Stillborn Angel Fallen Saturday, July 24th @ the Sidebar, Baltimore, MD And I don’t wanna say anything specific until it’s confirmed, but we may have another gig coming up in August at a bigger club with a really cool headliner, so hopefully that will come through and if you can’t make it to this one you can hit up that one. There’s been a lot of discussion and re-evaluation in the Zuul camp lately. For the past couple months, a member of the band had been seriously lacking in motivation, and always seemed kind of annoyed to have to come to the practice space a couple times a week. It came to a head a couple weeks ago, when he start saying, at first in a joking way, that he quit. But he just kept saying it, and saying he was serious. So we decided that the next night we were going to practice, that instead we’d all just get together for dinner and have a band meeting and figure out what to do. We’d been trying to write new material ever since the radio show in May, because a couple people in the band were really unsatisfied with some of the songs we’d written so far and didn’t want to play them anymore. But it was getting close to time to get ready for this next show at the Sidebar, and writing new stuff was not going well. And the guys were pretty intent on not playing some of the old songs. But I kept telling them, beggars can’t be choosers, and if we don’t have any new stuff to play, and toss out half of our old set ,we’re only going to have 15 minutes worth of material to play. So we had our meeting, and pretty much tried to address why the one guy wanted to quit, and he just felt that we were in a rut and not getting anywhere. So that night we decided to set some goals and think about what we’re doing with this in the long run. We’re going to play this show, whether we have to play some old stuff or not, but then after that, and maybe this other show we might have in August, we’re going to step back from playing out for a bit, and focus on writing and honing the material, and getting ready to record. The goal is to have an EP, maybe self-released, to sell at shows. And when we actually have something to sell, we’ll be more confident in playing out of town, and maybe get some shows in nearby cities like D.C. and Philly. So Zuul is still on the grind. Watch out. -al
