This week, before spring break started, I took two exams, and got my grade back from another that I’d taken the week before. I failed the first test in my math course earlier in the semester, so while I knew I did better on this one, I wasn’t expecting much. But as it turned out, I got a B on it, which is a pretty major improvement I’d say.

The professor in the math class is a retired high school principal, a nice older guy who just teaches a couple classes a week to keep busy. After he handed back the tests, he decided to give the class a little advice for when they depart for spring break. I expected him to warn against the dangers of promiscuity and alcohol, but instead he launched into this bizarre tirade about how caffeine is bad for you and that Red Bull is unhealthy, except he kept calling it “Big Bull”. I had a really terrible time stifling my laughter for the rest of the class.

The 2 midterms I had this week were both on Wednesday, and I think I did ok on both, but not great. Both were classes where I pretty much just showed up and paid attention in class every week, but didn’t really do all the required reading, so I just did some cramming the last couple days before the tests and hoped it would turn out alright. It’s just annoying that now I have to wait til after spring break to get them back and find out how I did.

For spring break this year I’m not going anywhere, but not going to class really will feel like a vacation for me. I’ll be working pretty much the same amount of hours as I usually do, but it will still be a nice change of pace. I usually don’t work at my on-campus job while school is out, but they were asking if anyone is gonna be around during spring break, and since I will, they said I could come in for a little 4-hour workday every day next week. So every day I’ll be getting done around 1pm and will have the rest day to myself to do whatever. And really the most annoying part of that job is the other student workers. So I’m really just thrilled to have the office to myself. I might even catch up on some of my class reading.

I really just need to discipline myself and be constructive with my free time over break. Usually these days I’m so busy that whenever I’m home I just veg out and listen to music and sit at the computer. Which is fine and good, but when it becomes my whole day it’s a bit much. A couple weekends ago, I had my first full day off in a couple weeks, and I ended up not leaving the house the whole day. I actually got a couple offers from friends to meet up and hang out, but I ended up flaking out on both and just staying home, and didn’t really do anything more productive than laundry the whole day. This weekend I’m on call at work, so I didn’t make any plans, but it turns out there’s nothing to do, so I’ve got a lot of time on my hands. Hopefully I can at least clean my room or something today.
