This week I paid rent and a couple bills, and for the first time in over a month, I’m pretty much in the clear financially, and man does it feel good. Granted, I had to take a little bit out of savings to make sure I wouldn’t be in the red, which is something I try not to do unless absolutely necessary, but it more or less was. And now that the paychecks from my 2nd job are rolling in again, I should be good to go, for the rest of the semester. I’m already thinking about all the DVD’s and other silly things I want to blow all my excess cash on. I really need to start getting smart about my finances, though. If I really sit back and think about how much money I’ve earned in the past year compared to how much I’ve spent, I’m sure the incongruity would be staggering. A couple years ago, saving some of what I made seemed not only reasonable but possible. Now I don’t even think about it. When I get paid, I just wonder how much wiggle room I have for stuff besides basics like gas and food. One thing that I should really make a point to set some cash aside for is my car, because something’s wrong with it, but I don’t know what, and I’m putting off finding out what that something is and addressing it until it stands up and demands to be taken care of. Bits of smoke keeping coming from underneath the hood, but the engine’s not overheating or anything, and it smells like syrup, which the ever helpful Jeffy tells me is probably an indication that something’s wrong with the coolant hose. So I dunno, I guess I need to get that checked out. Life is moving at a fairly agreeable pace these days. One thing I realized this week, though, is that while my classes this semester are all in all not bad, it’s the first time in a while that there isn’t a single one I really enjoy being in. Usually there’s at least a couple professors that aren’t too boring, and I do have one that I’ve had a couple times before and she’s cool. But really I’ve just been dreading sitting in those little desks all day more and more lately. I guess this is that point in the semester where I always start to get restless, though. Spring break is still two weeks away, too. At least it’s getting warmer already, though. -al
