This past weekend, I finally got to drive down to Delaware and see my Moms, who I’d owed a visit ever since she got back from her vacation, which was a month ago right around the time I started back at school. So I’ve been pretty busy with all that stuff, and missed her birthday, and Joe’s birthday, but finally found a weekend that was mostly clear so I could go see them.

I worked Friday night, so on Saturday I slept in, and finally got on the road in the afternoon. There was some absurd backup on the beltway, it always drives me nuts when there’s this acute congestion where one lane being blocked makes it so that getting through the 2 miles surrounding that point take 20 minutes. But blah blah blah, usual traffic shit, I got there by dinner time and it was good to see Mom, and Joe came home from work a few hours later.

After a few weeks of being on a particularly tight budget, it’s kind of surreal to go home and have Mom stuffing me with those big meals and endless snacks and desserts I was raised on. Since taking easy at home recovering from her surgery has had her put on a few pounds, she’s about to go on one of those Atkins-type diets, and evidently decided to unload all the carbs in the house on me. Which was fine by me. By the time I left, my car was loaded up with more groceries than I’ve bought in weeks.

It seems like everytime I go home, I end up unearthing something unexpected to take with me. This time, Mom and Joe asked me if I wanted to do anything with Zac’s old amp in the garage. He left it when he moved out to Wisconsin, and it’s been sitting there for almost a year now, and they were wondering if maybe the cold would ruin it. But I happened to have a mic and cable in my car, so I plugged it in there and ran a test, and they still work. So I asked Zac if it was cool to take it, and I loaded it up and took it with me to the practice space, to see if my band could ever put it to some use. Thanks again, Zac.

was going to head home on Sunday, mainly because I wanted to try for band practice that night, but since that ended up falling through, I stayed until Monday morning, since I don’t have class on Mondays til 2pm. My poor car was way overdue for an oil change, and by the time I got around to taking it to the local Jiffy Lube on Sunday, they had just closed the garage, so Joe took the liberty of popping the hood and doing the honors for me. Apparently it was pretty bad. Thanks again, Joe.

Hopefully I’ll have more chances to go home and see the fam in the future. Maybe over spring break next month.
