On Saturday J.G. and I spent our 2nd Valentine’s Day together. And since her school’s formal dance was on Friday, I went up to see her and make a weekend out of it. We didn’t go last year, but after going to my cousin’s wedding in November and getting all dressed up and dancing, we decided it was something we needed to do more often. After working on Friday morning, and then picking up some yellow lilys, I got on the road, and made decent time getting up to Allentown. It was a day early, but I went ahead and gave her flowers and candy for V Day. My friend Kelly works at Godiva, so she hooked me up with a deal on some coconut truffles. And J.G. got me a heart shaped box of chocolate turtles. Those things are the bomb. We got on our way over to the hotel were the formal was being held, and met up with her friends who had gotten a room for the night, and changed into our fancy clothes. J.G.’s friends are very crazy, and amuse me as much as my crazy friends amuse her. When it was time, we went down to the big hall where the dance was being held. Actually, it wasn’t that big, since Cedar Crest is such a small school, there were only about a hundred students in attendance. But all in all it was a nice spread, tables all set out for dinner. The DJ spun tunes during dinner, but it wasn’t until every course had been served that people started really hitting the floor. I was very disappointed that the best selection of the night, “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers, was used up during dinner. But we boogies a bit. J.G. and I mostly got on the floor for the slow dances, can’t go wrong with those. All in all, a fun night. For Valentine’s Day, we decided to get a hotel room, just for the hell of it, since we don’t really get much privacy in her dorm room. So on Saturday after brunch we went across town and checked in, and enjoyed our privacy. Our room was right by the elevator, so we kept hearing the bing, but aside from that, it was lovely. For dinner we went out to the Cracker Barrel and grubbed on some down home cookin’, and I solved that little peg puzzle that they have at every table, and was very proud of myself. Seriously, I wish I’d filmed it, because that will never happen to me again. On Sunday, we had continental breakfast in the lobby, which for some reason J.G. was really excited about. The girl just loves hotels. She’s weird, but I love her. Anyway, good weekend. -al
