Over the weekend, my new roommate Jace officially moved into the apartment. I’ve had the place to myself for a few weeks, so it’ll take a little getting used to, but so far, so good. Even though Mike pretty much moved out a while ago, he still has come up for some reason or another almost every weekend, and he usually crashes on the couch. It’s weird, it hasn’t been long at all since he lived here, but now he’s suddenly a guest. So I can get offended when he farts on my couch. It was kind of cool to hang out and watch TV with both Mike and Jace, kind of passing the torch from old roommate to new. Jace seems cool enough from what little time I’ve spent with him. Mike and I asked if he wanted to come out with us to a party on Saturday, but he declined. Which is cool, if the guy turns out to be quiet and keeps to hiimself, that’ll be a fine roommate situation. It was cool living with Mike, though, because we didn’t really know each other that well before being roommates, but we became pretty tight, and he’s fun to hang out with. So on Saturday we went to Kelly’s party, in observance of her birthday which was earlier in the week. Kelly always brings in a good crowd, probably half of the friends I’ve made in college have been through her. So I got to catch up with some familiar faces. It wasn’t as crazy as her last party, though, which was basically one long karaoke night. The 3rd week of the semester is about to start and I’m still getting settled into my classes. The last couple semesters, I’ve been taking a full plate of English classes, but this semester I’m only taking 3 and making room for other stuff I need. I’ve got a math gen ed requirement to fill, so I’m taking one of the easiest possible classes for that, and the prof is really going easy on us, so that should be a piece of cake. I don’t even have to do homework, just show up and do decent on the tests, and it’s more or less stuff I learned in high school. I’ve also got a sociology class, which is looking interesting, all about race, class and gender. I started back at my on-campus job last week, and I turned out to be on call this past weekend. There wasn’t a whole lot to do, though, which was nice. But the 2 things I had to do were both morning jobs, and I was out late working my other job on Friday night til 1am. So I ended up sleeping for 2 hours, and then getting up and going to campus and setting up an event. And then Saturday night I was at the party til the wee hours, and again slept for a couple hours and then got up and did manual labor. In a weird way, that stuff is kind of relaxing, when I’m able to go out and do jobs on my own at my own pace. I think my schedule is pretty good this semester, I should be able to keep up with both jobs and classes without draining myself like I did last semester. -al
