It’s been a pretty crazy week. For one thing, it was the first week in quite a while that I’ve worked more than 2 shifts at the sub shop, and even that only happened because someone called out sick and I was asked to take their shift. Peeps there have been dropping like flies lately, I feel like one of the only people that hasn’t gotten sick and had to take off work at least once lately.

I usually work night shifts, and Thursday was the first day shift I’ve worked in probably months. I only had to be there at 11 a.m., but seriously it was the earliest I’d woken up in weeks. I’ve been keeping such late hours lately. And then the next day, I had a night shift til close at 1 a.m. The day shift people crack me up, though. I’m used to the laid back environment of working with the other college kids at night, but in the daytime it’s a couple crabby old ladies and this sassy black girl. When I came in the other day, they were actually having a heated argument about who used up the last roll of toilet paper in the ladies’ room. It took a lot of effort for me to stifle my laughter through the whole thing.

This week I finally got together with my dad for the dinner we tried to have the day after my birthday when we ended up missing each other. But when I called him up on Wednesday to let him know I was coming down, it turned out that that day he’d had a dentist appointment downtown, and when it was over, his car wasn’t in the spot where he’d parked it.

He assumed that it was probably towed, but after a couple days of calling around and trying to found out where it had been towed to, he’s now arrived at the conclusion that it was stolen. Which totally sucks, because he just bought that car a couple months ago, after his Jeep was totalled by the flood after Hurricane Isabel. And his insurance doesn’t even cover theft, so he’s effectively out a few thousand dollars. He’s pretty justifiably pissed about the whole thing, but he’s doing well financially these days so it’ll blow over and he’ll bounce back.

This weekend Mike came back to the apartment to move some more of his stuff out and take care of some business with getting a new roommate for this place. The guy he interviewed last week is unemployed, and even though he supposedly has plenty of money to cover rent, the company that owns these apartments is a real stickler about having a job, when we first applied to live here we had to bring in pay stubs. Mike really wanted to give the place to this guy because he was the first one to respond to his ad, and because he just wants to get this stuff settled as early as possible. But it looks like that won’t be possible, and the 2nd person in line is a girl that Mike used to work with at Barnes & Noble. So I might have a meeting with her this week and show her around the place.

We were going to have a band practice on Saturday while Mike was in town, but just as we were getting ready to leave and pick up everyone to get started, it started snowing. Sean was really disappointed when we decided to call it off at the last minute, but apparently the roads were really bad that night so I’m glad we didn’t take our chances out there. We’ll catch up and get a practice in this week, though.

It’s closing in on just a week or so until school starts back again, and I’m not really looking forward to it, I feel like I haven’t really had that much downtime. But at least I’ve gotten to chill with J.G. a lot. She’s going back to school this week. Anyway I get stressed but life is good.
